If you have a Dish Network satellite TV system installed in your home, you may find it helpful to use the TV2 output to view programs on another television. The purpose of TV2 output is to be able to watch different channels on additional TVs, without having to purchase a different satellite receiver. When it comes to setting up TV2, the process is not complicated if the following procedures are followed.
What You Need
- An active membership with Dish Network, a working receiver that can output signals from TV2. Most Dish receivers have a TV2 RF/composite output or HDMI port integrated into the device.
- A second TV that you would like to integrate into your home entertainment system.
- The cable for connections – coaxial or composite AV or active HDMI cables. You will require cables that can stretch from your satellite receiver to where the second TV is situated.
Make Sure the Dish Receiver TV2 Outputs
Cross-check what kind of outputs your Dish receiver has for TV2 before connecting the devices. TV2 has an RF Coaxial F-Type connector in most receivers. Advanced HD receivers may also have RCA composite video/audio jacks or HDMI jacks for TV2 or dual TV connection. Select the ports and cables wisely.
Connect Cables
If your TV2 output is coaxial RF, then you should use a coaxial cable with F-Type connectors at the ends and connect the Dish receiver’s TV2 output to the Antenna or Cable input located on the rear panel of your second TV. Ensure the ends of the wires are correctly inserted into the sockets and tighten them up securely.
For composite AV outputs, use an RCA audio/video cable to connect the RCA TV2 outputs of the Dish receiver to the composite video on the second TV. Match up each connector.
If there is an HDMI port available for the second television connection, then plug an HDMI cable into the HDMI TV2 port of the Dish receiver then plug the other end into one of the HDMI inputs located on the back of the second television.
Route & Secure Cables
Connect cables from the Dish receiver to the position of the second TV. Utilize cable ties or clips to fix cables in an orderly manner to walls and baseboards. Ensure that cables are not a tripping hazard. Screw the other end to the corresponding ports at the back of the second TV set.
Program TV2 Remote
Some dish systems include a second remote for use in controlling TV2. Go to the on-screen menu of your Dish receiver and choose System Info. Go to the admin login page of the TV2 setup and search for the TV2 remote address. You need to enter this 4-digit code into the second remote so that it is correctly paired with the first one. Complete any further on-screen instructions to complete the programming of the remote.
Enable & Name TV2
On the Dish receiver’s Menu, locate the Multi-TV option and set the second TV to TV2. Select Enabled and give the second TV location name as ‘Living Room’ or ‘Bedroom’ to distinguish it. Choose the video quality – Standard Definition (SD), High-Definition (HD) or None. This means that when the video is off, you cannot watch TV2, so ensure that it is On.
Tune in to the channel for TV2
You can use the buttons on the front of the Dish receiver unit to make the TV/Video button take you through the tuners until you get to Tuner 2. This tuner supplies the TV2 signal. With the channel +/- buttons on the receiver, program the second TV to display the channel you want. The channel of the main TV tuner will remain unchanged.
Sync Channel Changes
There are several methods to synchronize the change in channels between the primary television and the second television, TV2.
- Change the channel on each TV by using the remote control corresponding to that particular television. The rates are associated with the particular tuners.
- Go to the Multi-TV menu and turn on the Double Mode option. As a result, these two buttons are used to make both TVs to be displaying the same channel. Switching a tuner’s channel will also impact the TV2.
- Select multi-TV and then set a specific channel just for TV2 under preferences. Every time the TV2 button is activated, the television device will switch to the corresponding channel.
Get more out of your new TV2 setup by watching satellite programs on more than one TV. When proper cables are connected and remotes programmed, the user can switch between different channels and features designed for the secondary television. Whether it be used in the living room, the kitchen, the bedroom, or the office, TV2 from Dish Network allows you to get the most out of your satellite deal.
