    Program Second TV Dish Network

  • Obtaining a second television set for the Dish Network satellite service is as simple as it can be. Altogether, you can follow the below simple tips to watch Dish programming on numerous TVs in your house with some other equipment. Below are the processes involved in programming a second TV for Dish Network:

    What You Need

    • First television connected to dish receiver/DVR
    • The second TV you would like to connect
    • Coax cable
    • Dish receiver or Dish standalone tuner for second TV

However, there are two viable ways to connect the second TV – either through an extra Dish receiver/DVR or by using a Dish tuner only. A Dish tuner by itself is less expensive and significantly smaller, but a second receiver/DVR will allow you to have full DVR capability on the second television.

    Hook Up Your Equipment

    If using a second receiver/DVR:

    1. Run the coax cable from the satellite dish to the ‘Satellite In’ socket on the rear panel of the newer Dish receiver you want to program for the second TV. This brings the receiver closer to the Dish satellite signal.
    2. Using an HDMI or other video/audio cable, plug one end into the TV Out port of the receiver and the other end into the HDMI input of the second television. This delivers the video and audio signal.
    3. Plug the receiver power cord into an electrical outlet.

If using a standalone Dish tuner:

    1. Ensure that the existing Dish receiver/DVR that is connected to your first TV is turned on.
    2. Run a coax cable from the “TV2 Out” on the rear side of that existing receiver to the “Satellite In” on the Dish tuner. This pumps the satellite signal to the tuner.
    3. Plug an HDMI or any other suitable video/audio cable from the Dish tuner to the input jacks on the rear of your second television set.
    4. Plug in the power cord of the Dish tuner to a power source.

Connect the second TV and Program it

    Once everything is hooked up:

    1. Switch on the second television and the Dish receiver/tuner that is linked to it. The receiver will turn on and may display a start-up activation message if it is new.
    2. In the Dish receiver or tuner remote, press menu then system setup, Installation, and point dish. This will go through an automatic scan to capture and check the satellite signal on its own.
    3. If all the procedures go well, it should find the dish pointing coordinates and signal and display a Congratulations screen. If it does not, repeat the satellite setup process.
    4. Select Menu, then System Setup, Whole-Home, and finally Add Client.
    5. Choose Create New Location and give it the name of the room or the TV you are creating (for example, “Family Room TV”). Select Continue. This connected and named the second room connection to your Dish whole-home system.
    6. It will ask you to enter a 4-digit PIN which can be used to control room names and options. Please type in a 4-digit PIN that you will remember and make sure that it is a secret to other people.

The receiver will then turn on the room connection and the tuning of the devices. Once it does this, your programming and DVR recordings from the initial Dish receiver should be visible on the second television.

    Set Up Your Preferences

Once connected, you can customize the settings for the second TV:
    1. Menu > Preferences gives you settings such as screen aspect ratio and captions.
    2. If using a DVR receiver, also always look into DVR Series Recording preferences and auto-deletion settings.
    3. Create Favorite Channel lists based on the programming interest in that particular room.

Now both your primary set-top box and your additional second set-top box will be able to get all the awesome Dish Network content and recording options. Enjoy! With the Dish whole-home setup, you can add receivers for up to 16 rooms or TVs in your home if you want your home entertainment to be whole-home worthy.

    Troubleshooting Tips

If you cannot access channels or recordings from your main Dish receiver/DVR on the second TV, double-check the following:
    • HDMI or other video cables connected firmly
    • A cable from the main Dish receiver connected inside the second receiver/tuner is labeled as “Satellite In”.
    • Room connections named and enabled in whole-home configurations
    • Electrical power extensions connected
    • Both Dish boxes are ON

To program your Dish Network satellite service onto other TVs, you simply need the right cables, receivers, and settings. This guide has laid down steps on how you can extend your Dish programming and access beyond the primary television as highlighted above. Multi-room viewing allows all the residents of a home including your family members, friends, or any other occupants comfort while watching their preferred sports, shows, or even news at their desired time.
