As many of us know, having a single remote control that can control your TV, satellite, DVD player, and or any other related device makes life very much easier. The Dish Network remote that comes with your satellite receiver is a remote that is intended to do exactly that – to be a universal remote or one remote that controls them all. This does away with the experience of having to use several remotes solely to operate a television or to watch a movie.
It is very easy to set up your Dish Network remote to control your television and the whole process only takes a few minutes. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to program a Dish Network Remote to your television:
Step 1 – Start up Your TV
Check to ensure that you have switched your television on before proceeding with programming. This Dish remote uses IR (infrared) for transmission which is to be received by the IR sensor present in the TV for programming. For example, when the TV is off, the signal that is sent from the remote for the programming will not be picked up.
Step 2 – Locate the Device Button that takes place successfully.
Consider the remote of the Dish Network and figure out where the button labeled as “TV” is. This is the device button that sets the remote into TV mode of operation when it is pressed.
Step 3 – The identification of the tv code
Most TV codes are 3, 4, or 5 digits, and you’ll need to locate the one that corresponds to your TV brand. The code you enter in the Dish remote corresponds with one of these values and instructs the TV code to send out the appropriate IR signal to command your television. The codes can be obtained by searching the internet or directly from the Dish network provider by requesting for the code.
Step 4 – Press the TV/Video button on the remote control for two seconds and make the remote control enter the TV Programming Mode.
To go to the Home menu, press and hold down the “TV” device button. DO NOT release the button. In the middle of the remote, there is a button labeled mode which, once pressed, will cause a light to blink twice signaling that you are in the TV programming mode.
Step 5 – Now, type the TV Code
While holding down the “TV” button, input your TV code, which can be a 3,4-, or 5-digit number on the number buttons. The mode button will beep once and flash twice when the code has been entered. Release the “TV” button.
Another way is to try the product out by ordering it online from the site and analyzing the kind of reactions and feedback it receives from the customers.
Align your Dish Network remote to the TV screen and switch the power button. Your TV ought to be switched off. If it doesn’t, the next code is the next one on the list for your TV brand; go back to steps 4 and 5 as many times as necessary. Some TVs in the market may be produced by the same company but will have different codes.
Volume and mute control programmable guide
And, once the power control is in place, you would also like to be able to turn the volume up and down and to mute. This needs some minor additional programming to become stronger in this aspect.
Stage 1 – Lower the television volume
Before you begin, turn down your TV’s volume as well. Avoid muting it as most TVs need sound for the program to run or for some commands to be executed.
Step 2 – While doing so, press and hold the Volume Up button.
Place the pointer on the TV and press/hold down the Volume Up button for about 5 seconds to enable the TV volume increase. Reduce pressure when the volume of information has risen significantly.
Step 3 – Mute Button: To further enhance its capabilities, the program is given the Mute Button.
Well, press and release the Mute button on the phone. Almost all the television brands will now be prearranged. If yours is not of this kind, go to step 4 or step 5.
Step 4 – Tap the Mute button and then quickly hold it down for a few seconds.
If the Mute button is available, press it while it is in the depressed position for approximately 5 seconds and then release the button when the picture on the television disappears.
Operation 5 – All models require a power button, which is the final and most important step in powering the device on or off.
Preset or release the power button. It is hoped that volume and mute functions will now operate as expected. Test them.
The following are guidelines on how to re-program your remote:
If the Dish Network remote is modified by error or ceases to operate your TV, reprogramming is easy. Just go through the same steps as above- Enter the TV Programming mode, Input the TV code, test the power, program the volume, and mute.
Advanced Tips
Here are some additional tips for programming your Dish Network universal remote:
- Use All Codes - Codes are once entered and used they are not reusable so in case you were wrong with the first code do not get frustrated. Slowly type in all the codes listed for your particular TV brand; it will only take one code to bring up the menu.
- Check Equipment – This includes checking that both the remote and the TV have good batteries and are functioning as they should. It seems that the problem has occurred because the batteries are not strong enough to effectively run the program.
- Aim & Distance – Do not deviate from the target line by more than 30 degrees while programming the remote and do not program the remote from a distance greater than 25 feet.
- Factory Reset – For complete erasure of device programming, push the TV Power until lights on all modes are lit. Release and it will turn back to its original state.
- Label Devices – After setting, it is advisable to put a small label on which device button programs which equipment.
Programming Multiple Devices
Functions that can be controlled by the Dish remote include your TV, DVD player, stereo, and any other device you may have. Once your TV is programmed:
- To select one of the other outputs, press the desired device button (AUX, DVD, Stereo, and so on).
- Enter the equipment code.
- Test device function.
You have to repeat the same process for any other device that you want to operate with the Dish universal remote. It is also preferred to have one remote with programmed instructions to control the device and not have a coffee table cluttered with them.
