How To Program A Dish Network Remote?

  • Dish Network remotes are designed to be programmed for use with a Dish Network satellite receiver. This enables you to switch on or off the receiver, change stations, scan for the guide and menu, and adjust the volume among other functions. In general, programming a Dish remote is a simple process and takes just a short amount of time. The following are the steps you need to follow in programming the standard Dish Network remotes:

    Things You'll Need

    • Dish Network remote control is one of the greatest innovations that has enhanced the lifestyle of many people.
    • Satellite receiver from Dish Network
    • TV

    Step 1: Start the receiver

Ensure that the dish network receiver is on and properly connected to your TV before you proceed. Your television should also be turned on. The receiver will probably display on the screen that no remote control is found.

Step 2 - Identify the remote control setup button

Find the Setup or SYS button on your Dish Network remote. On most Dish remotes, this is a button that is slightly sunk into the surface of the remote and is usually located close to the top of it. This button will be used to set the remote into the programming mode that you will require.

Step 3 – Enter the Programming Mode

Make sure your Dish remote is in the original mode, then press and hold the Setup/SYS button down firmly. The next thing to do is to hold this while pressing and then releasing the SAT button. Press the Setup button until all the mode buttons blink twice. This means that you are now in the programming mode. The mode buttons are found at the top of the remote and they are the Power, Play, Pause, Guide modes, and others.

Step 4 – The final step includes choosing the code that will be used by the receiver after receiving the signals from the transmitter.

When still in programming mode, you then use the numbers buttons to input the 3-digit code of your receiver model. Most codes can be accessed through the Internet or the manual of your receiver. For instance, code 627 should work for most of the Dish ViP model receivers. The mode buttons will blink twice after inputting the code.

Step 5 – Test and Save

After entering the code, press the Pound (#) button to see whether the setup was successful or not. Turn on your Dish receiver by pointing the remote at the device and then pressing the power button. If the receiver is off, then yes the code is effective. Otherwise, go back to step 3 and enter a new code on the line above the text that precedes it. If a working code is found, press and hold the Setup button again until the Mode buttons blink twice. The remote exits programming mode and your code is now saved.

    Alternative Programming Methods

If you do not happen to know your receiver code, most Dish remotes have a built-in code search system. After entering setup mode:

    • Press Channel Up or Down instead of typing in a code. The remote scans through codes and sees if there is a match.
    • If the receiver shuts off, press Pound (#) to save then hold setup till it switches off to exit the programming mode.

Some Dish remotes also have an Acoustic Feedback configuration. This utilizes sounds from the receiver to program instead of entering codes:

    • Upon launching setup mode, use the Mute button on the remote.
    • Press Hold Mute on the remote until the TV screen asks you to press Select on the remote.
    • Press the Select button and point the remote at your Dish receiver.
    • In programming, when all the coding is done, it is signaled acoustically to finish the process on its own.

    Additional Tips

Here are some extra tips for using your newly-programmed Dish Network remote:

    • Check battery status to ensure they are fully charged. Most of the time, weak batteries will hinder proper programming in its process.
    • Always point the remote directly at the receiver’s IR sensor window for durability and proper functioning.
    • Retest programming if inconsistencies occur later, for example, if the buttons do not function as expected.
    • Run setup again for more receivers to be hooked up. The unit is designed for control with a remote that can be programmed for use with
    • multiple units.
    • Please consult the manual of your Dish receiver or remote for more detailed and accurate procedures depending on the model.

When using the Dish Network equipment, it is essential to follow the proper programming process to enable the remote to control the satellite television service. In programming, another added advantage is that you can operate your receiver from across the room without having to get up from your seat. As mentioned earlier, the process presented here applies to most Dish remote and receiver models.
