DIRECTV Stream (previously known as AT&T TV and AT&T TV Now) offers features such as live TV pause/rewind and primetime DVR. This results in a feature known as “Continue Watching” which serves as a section that notes down the content that has been paused or recorded so that you can come back and watch at your convenience.
Why Delete the Continue Watching Section?
Some viewers consider it quite convenient when they have a list of partially watched programs or recordings, which can be quickly accessed. However, others may consider the Continue Watching section as irritating or distracting as it takes up a lot of space in the interface if you start many shows you don’t complete.
Fortunately, there is a straightforward way to remove all the titles from the Continue Watching list on DIRECTV Stream. Here is how to do it.
View the Continue Watching Section
Before we delete any content, let's first take a look at where the Continue Watching section is located:
1. On your DIRECTV Stream box or streaming device, go to the Home screen.
2. Keep scrolling down and click on the “Continue Watching” option.
This section contains tiles showing:
- Resumed programs you have initiated.
- Videos that you have bookmarked to watch at a later time
- Video-on-demand rentals/purchases that you have made but have not completed watching/using.
The Continue Watching tab is quite useful when you want to quickly get back to a show you are currently binge-watching. In case, the unused content accumulates here, then the cleaning process can free up space on the Home screen.
Delete Individual Items from Continue Watching
If you just want to remove a specific title or two from Continue Watching rather than clear everything, that's easy to do:
1. Navigate to the Continue Watching link
2. To delete a video from the app, first, you need to reduce the window size so that only one video is visible.
3. Gently apply pressure on your remote to reveal choices.
4. Click on the “Remove from Continue Watching” option.
This removes only that one video from the list. Everything else becomes Continue Watching, which is for when you have more time to watch.
In other words, it remains impossible to delete several videos simultaneously, although it could be helpful in some cases. You would then have to sit and delete them individually. ” If you want to remove all the shows and movies from the Continue Watching tab, then continue reading.
Clear All Continue Watching Content
Erasing all the entries from Continue Watching at once is quite easy, but it is located in the menus quite deeply. Here are the steps:
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Apps > Manage Apps
3. Choose the DIRECTV Stream app
4. Choose "Clear Data"
This brings the app back to factory settings, erasing your account details, and changes the app settings, and the list of shows you want to continue watching.
After clearing the data, just navigate back to the Home screen and then sign in to your DIRECTV Stream account once more. The Continue Watching section will now be empty.
Important: You Will Lose Recordings
When you clear application data, understand that this action is going to erase all the DVR recordings and downloads you had saved. So, do not use this method unless you agree with the fact that those will be deleted forever as well.
If you want to clear records, then you can only delete Continue Watching items individually rather than all at one go.
Continue Watching Will Gradually Refill
Supposing you proceed to watch other DIRECTV programs, the Continue Watching section will not remain empty after wiping it off.
When you wait, return to live TV, or set new DVR recordings, the Continue Watching list will start to fill up with your unfinished or unwatched videos again.
Thus, clearing it out offers only a brief aesthetic clean-up of your Home screen. For continuing, it is better to remove Continue Watching items one by one gradually when not in use anymore.
Prefer a Blank Slate? Disable the Feature
If having any type of Continue Watching section doesn't match your viewing preferences, DIRECTV Stream does allow disabling it completely:
1. Go to Settings
2. Select Preferences
3. Change Continue Watching to Off
When the feature is turned off, items you pause/record will not appear in any watchlist queue for instant continuation later. Otherwise, each time, you’d have to go to recordings or go to On Demand rentals on your own.
For the people who watch content linearly, without fast-forwarding or rewinding live television, Continue Watching is eliminated. Just remember to turn it on again if you want to use the pause/rewind or recording options.
In Summary
While the Continue Watching section helps catch up on shows and programs, this can become visually overwhelming on the Home screen interface for DIRECTV Stream. Deleting stuff here and there is simple because it is done one video at a time, although it may be time-consuming. Just understand that this will be like this for a while as more viewing will fill it up again over time. Disabling the Continue Watching feature altogether eliminates any further addition – but only at the drawback of entirely removing resume/rewind functions. Select the option that perfectly suits your personality when streaming.
