    Program Dish Network Remote

  • Changing the channel on your Dish Network satellite service – choosing a new TV or a universal remote control? It is also easy to program the Dish remote to work with the TV because of the following steps to follow. The general settings of the remote to turn on the TV, change the volume, and others are easily done with just a few steps. So, below are the steps that can enable you to program your Dish Network remote to your television.

    Things You'll Need

    • Dish Network remote
    • TV
    • TV remote (optional)

    Find the Device Code

The first and perhaps the most important step is to navigate to the right device code that is relevant to your TV brand. Device codes link the Dish remote to the series of compatible TV manufacturers needed for the control operations.

You can find device codes one of two ways:

On page 55 of the Dish Universal remote codes manual, there is a chart for TV Device Codes. The following is a chart containing codes of specific manufacturers of TVs such as Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio, and others with three and four digits. Locate your TV brand and pick the code next to it.

In case you have a Dish remote, go to its manual, and try to navigate to the automatic code search feature. Follow these steps:

    • (a) Switch on your television set.
    • (b) When you are using a Dish remote, you need to hold the TV Power button. The Power button of the TV will also blink twice.
    • (c) Utilize the Number Pad to type in the code 001. The TV Power button will flash twice again if accepted – this proves that the TV is operating based on the new settings.
    • (d) Aim the Pointer at the TV and press the Power button once. If the TV does not power off, it means that the correct code is not yet entered, so try continuing with all the 3-digit codes before proceeding with the 4-digit codes.
    • (e) After entering the correct code to switch on/off your television, finally press # to confirm the code in.

When you find the appropriate device code, the code for the programming steps should be noted down. A third possibility is turning on the IR (infrared) listings option in your Dish remote menu so that it can display the codes to you.

    Program The Dish Remote

Once you have your TV's correct device code, you are ready to program the remote:

    1. Turn on your TV.
    2. It is required to find the Mode button on the Dish remote control.
    3. This may be done by pressing and holding down the Mode button until all the other mode buttons blink.
    4. Enter the 3-digit or 4-digit device code that was provided earlier that corresponds to your TV via the Number Pad. The LED light located next to the TV mode button will blink two times to indicate the correct input.
    5. The next move is to press the Power button once in the direction of the TV. In the case your television shuts down, then the code has run to your pleasure. If not, go back to steps 2-5 and try a new device code from the brand list that has been listed.

If other buttons can work and make a change in the tv then other buttons like volume and input should also work without needing to program them.

Ways of Programming Dish Network Remote Other Than the Buttons at the Back

Beyond manual programming, there are also alternative options to connect your Dish Network remote to the TV function:

    Use Smart Search

A smart search feature helps the remote browse through all the conceivable codes for your TV brand at a go. To use:

    1. Turn on the TV.
    2. Another method is to press and hold the TV Mode button for the dish remote until all Mode buttons illuminate.
    3. Type in the number 961 using the Number Pad on the remote control. It will activate the smart search feature.
    4. Now, the Dish remote will blink in sequence with each of the test codes and aim at the TV each time. Stop when you see that the TV is turned off implying that the code has run successfully. Press # now to save the code of the current line on which the cursor is placed.
    Enable IR Learning

IR learning will also allow you to copy capabilities from another remote as well as turn the feature on or off.

    1. Select the Menu button on your Dish remote/receiver, then go to Settings, Controls, then IR Learning. Select TV1 Device Type.
    2. The End button is pressed for the given device type that is being programmed for.
    3. Press the Mode button and then set the desired parameters for IR Learning by pressing the corresponding buttons.
    4. Press the Mode displayed on the bottom part of the left screen and wait for the prompt to tell you to press the corresponding button like Volume or Mute.
    5. Position the TV’s remote control at the Dish remote sensor. With the same Volume or Mute command on the remote, press and hold it down firmly until the new command is recorded. After getting the IR signal of both the remotes, make both the release buttons of the remotes open at the same time.

Perform it again on IR learning to include other required commands from your current TV remote into the Dish remote design.

    Reset To Factory Default

If programming fails or you want to clear any custom codes, a factory reset will restore your Dish remote back to out-of-the-box status:

    1. # button is in the lower right on the Number Pad.
    2. Fully press down the number 7 key while simultaneously pressing the number 3 key.
    3. To unlock the keyboard, press and release the ‘Power’ button placed at the upper-left part of the keyboard while still holding the # key.
    4. Hold down the # button wait for all the mode buttons to light up and then release the # button. The remote is reset with default codes. The remote is then reset with the default codes to effectively control the intended equipment.

After your Dish Network remote has been well programmed to your television then you can easily and directly operate power, volume, mute, and input change, among others from your key Dish Network remote. Take comfort in one versatile remote control that will control the entire home theater equipment.
